Run Guts Pull Cones A rafting adventure in the Italian Alps Adam Piggott 9781537732992 Books Reviews

  • Most of us eventually grow up. This is an unusual narrative of a 20-something Adam learning fast in Italy. A sequel to his first book which starts in Australia and takes us to Africa, this book builds on his friendships among his friends as he now takes greater command of his life. Whilst there are deeper layers to the narrative, as a tale it's a page-turner. The many events that comprise this summer in northern Italy are a delight. River rafting might be an unusual and occasionally exciting way to make a quid, but it's the friendships made and the quirky colleagues which make the story.

I liked the writing style, and the description of how men actually interrelate, becoming men while pretending to know what they're doing.

Some drugs, a lot of alcohol and no no homosexuality. A lot of fun.
  • Not as good as his first book but mostly because many of the anecdotes in this book didn't seem to lead to advice like Pushing Rubber. By the end, though, I really appreciated his take on developing leadership as he stepped up to fix the issues he saw in his workplace and social group. A skill that every young man should be working to develop. Read Pushing Rubber, then read this one.
  • Reviews, Adam likes them. Good or bad doesn't really matter to him though he would definitely like all reviews to be positive. I have decided to give it just 3/5 for the following reason the book I was reading, and thoroughly enjoyed before purchasing Adam's second book was the epic "Count of Monte Cristo". The combination of recency bias and very high literary standards set by Alexandere Dumas led me to be very impressed with Piggott's book.

Looking forward to your next book, Adam.
  • Piggott shares the good, the bad and the ugly of a completely overlooked world. Fascinating and entertaining.
  • Water runs uphill right? 😉
  • I went down the mountaineering road - no chicks - remote and isolated - makes me think I took up the wrong sport reading about his parks. Great read!
  • Excellent book. An amazing follow up to Pusing Rubber Downhill!
  • Fantastic pulls you in, could not put the book down
