"I heard about this book at the same time I needed the answers in it. I found it really suited my needs for moving ahead in my life. It was easy to read. I read all the way thru it and now I am going back and re-reading it to do all of the exercises. What I wanted to shift did shift after reading 20% of the book. At the age of ten, in fifth grade Social Studies, we were required to read a chapter about the Incas in Bolivia. There have been two cultures that resonated with me, medieval Europe and the Incas in Bolivia. I never knew why the Incas resonated with me until I read this book. I recommend it to everyone."

- has badgered me to rate this book, even though I have not finished it yet. I can do it, but had planned to wait until I got to the end. It's not just a read. There are exercises. Usually, with a book of this kind I'll read it all the way through first, and then if it seems worthwhile I'll do the exercises. The Four Insights takes shamanism deeper than most shamanic books, and it was clear from the gitgo that I was going to take it slow, do the exercises as I went, when I had time to clear my mind and do them right. So far I've done the first three with excellent results.
The narrative is also quite good. Villoldo is a PhD and has not completely escaped the prose deadening effects of graduate education, but you can still tell what he means by what he says, and sometimes you can tell it with pleasure. I think he's going to be my new enthusiasm. This is the second of his books I've read, and the first was terrific, so before I'm through I'll probably read, and perhaps practice, all of them. - Well written and easy to follow. This book has been very instrumental in my personal quest of self discovery. Highly recommend this book to anyone who has curiosity about genuine spirituality in today's confusing world of constant drama and tension.
- I am currently reading this book, I like it so far. Villoldo outlines the four parts of the medicine wheel in part one, and then in part two he talks about the four insights in great deal. I'd recommend reading this book after reading his adventures, "Dance of the Four Winds" and "Island of the Sun" (the sequel to that) because then you get to travel with him and then learn more detail about this 'journey of the wheel' that he and Don Antonio talk about. I am a huge Alberto Villoldo fan and have learned so much. This is the fifth book I've read by him.
- As always, Alberto Villoldo has done an exceptional job writing The Four Insights. Well written, easy to follow exercizes in Shamanic Healing that if practiced properly, do work. Alberto Villoldo is one of the most talented Shamans in Western Society, and he has provided in his books, healing methods used long before the industrial world began. I recommend this book for everyone, especially those interested in self-improvement, or those who just seem to have bad luck. Try this, I did, and I went from facing Life in Prison, to now, becoming a Shaman myself, living a Life of Happiness & Abundance. Alberto Villoldo is a Great Teacher & Mentor. Fantastic Book!!!!
- 'The Four Insights' is structured very differently from Villoldo's preceding ones, in that it condenses the teaching into Four Insights.
In a way, and perhaps logically so, this book is much more condensed than any of the former books by the author. Every sentence, and every word counts, and is full of meaning, and you are not going to read this in the same speed as, for example, Shaman, Healer, Sage. This indicates perhaps that this book is more conceptual than the earlier books, and that the author has in the meantime created a concise framework for his teaching. To give an example of this density that reminds the highly focused content of theosophical writings, the author writes in the Introduction
—The Earthkeepers teach that all of creation—the earth, humans, whales, rocks, and even the stars—is made of vibration and light./x
There is another elucidation forwarded by the author about his teaching that I consider extremely important—and that he should perhaps have provided in earlier publications. It’s the fact that the Laika tradition he was initiated in is not to be confounded with mainstream Inka tradition.
All those who know about the Inka tradition are aware of the fact that it was a Sun God cult, what Joseph Campbell came to call a ‘solar culture’ that practiced ruthless slavery, the oppression of the female, violent warfare, torture of prisoners of war, and human sacrifice.
The powerful message of this teaching is that we can overcome our negative individual and collective karma by rejoining the original pattern, through overcoming and healing what the Kahunas call complexes, and what Dr. Villoldo calls imprints in the Luminous Energy Field (LEF).
It is a daring perspective, and I can only admire the courage of the author to forward his wonderful mission in a time of change that perhaps really contains a vortex, an opening for the new to emerge from the old.
The book contains much more than the little window that I opened here in my book review, and perhaps contrary to my other reviews, I restrain myself here. And for good reason. It’s a symbolic act. - We are powerful creators; however, most people don't know it. This book will help you realize who you really are, and give you helpful tools to fully embody that knowledge. Beautiful wisdom is contained within these pages (or on the screen if you're reading on an electronic device).
- This book has a vast amount of information to help heal ourselves and how we can help others. We need be really understand our important roles we play in keeping Mother Earth well and happy so that our future generations can also become one with her. I have already recommended this book to others and will be rereading it again until I grasp on to the ways of an Earthkeeper.
